I have heard it said that there is only one issue in this election -- the Wal-Mart/Rio Development project. That is simply not the case. Certainly the Wal-Mart/Rio project deserves strict scrutiny (and will get it if I am elected mayor), but the Lakeway mayor and council members elected in May will serve two years and will debate and help decide a long list of complex issues vital to Lakeway’s future, in addition to Wal-Mart. Here are just a few of those issues and where I stand on them:

City budgets and spending. My record on council proves my commitment to holding the line on taxes.

Commercial development. Lakeway has in place strong codes and ordinances with high standards regarding the design, appearance, landscaping, parking lots, lighting, signage, litter, noise, and other requirements of commercial developments. New commercial developments should be made to adhere to the same standards that other developers have been and are being held to.

Police services. Continue to support an effective, responsive Lakeway police force.

Deer control. Support a pro-active program to reduce the number of deer in Lakeway. Work with state legislators and agencies to develop regulations that make it easier to trap and relocate deer.

Apartments. Not in Lakeway. High-density housing puts too much strain on a small city infrastructure.
